9 Summers 10 Autumns: Dari Kota Apel ke The Big Apple

Indonesian have many author who write based on his experiences. like Andrea Hirata, he write a tetralogi: Laskar Pelangi, Sang Pemimpi, Edensor, Maryamah Karpov. a little poor boy, live in Belitong and he dare to dream about having a good education. the first two book, already adapted to a motion picture.

and now we have, Iwan Setiawan. his little steps started at Batu, Malang, East Java. his father was a public transportation driver who even forgot his own birthday. he never had a proper toys to play with, he only had his school books. everyday he "play" with his school books, until he got a scholarship to IPB majoring in Statistic. after he graduated, he work at Nielsen Consumer Research Jakarta. after 2 years working at Nielsen Jakarta, he resigned and work at Danareksa Jakarta for a year before he accepted the offer to go to New York, at Nielsen New York. and ten years in New York he back to Batu and leaving his director position behind.

there are tears and joys along the way. his mother sacrifices to pawn her belonging just for Iwan tuition. his loan to his uncle in Jakarta. and his father sale his public transportation car, so that Iwan's Father's daughters and son can school until they graduated from university.

the moral message for me is dare to dream. sky is the limit. no matter how miserable your condition is, God is always there to turn to. do the best and let GOD do the rest.
maybe for me is too late to get the scholarship for my graduate degree but there are many ways to Rome and there are still many ways to make my dreams come true. to make your dreams come true.

so, people please dare to dream and take action on that dream.

maybe Iwan Setiawan never dream being a director in Nielsen New York City. but he is dream to make his little home be better and shining for his father and mother.
